An iron mirror is a highly polished reflecting iron object that can be used for reflection. In the past many ancient cultures, including those of China, Japan, and the Roman Empire, used mirrors of this type. Modern glass mirrors reflect light off of a backing made of silver or aluminium but iron mirrors reflect light straight off it ispolished metal surface.

Because iron oxidizes and rusts easily making an iron mirror requires a high level of metallurgical and polishing expertise. Iron and other metals, such as bronze were frequently used by artisans to increase the mirror strength and reflecting properties. The required reflectivity required careful abrasive polishing of the surface.

Iron mirrors were prized for their aesthetic appeal in addition to their practicality.
